One of the most important parts of networking is being able to quickly and concisely deliver your professional value. This week, our career advisors have some ideas for how to develop and deliver your elevator pitch.
What did you say?
When creating your elevator pitch, if you can't remember what to say without looking at a notecard, it's probably not going to work in practice. You just need to tell people what you do and how you can provide value– it doesn't need to be complicated. If you can't remember everything you're trying to say, neither will they.
Speak with conviction.
No matter how you're feeling about the search, remember to speak with confidence. When networking, talking to recruiters and interviewing, you want to show that not only do you offer the right skill-set but also that you're confident in your abilities.
Does your audience talk the talk?
Before you jump into technical talk, make sure your audience understands what you do. If they don't know much about your function or industry, be prepared to come up with easy ways to explain your role in everyday language. If you can't explain this clearly, you might be missing a potential introduction to someone who does know exactly what you do and has a job lead.
